 Discovery Properties is the home of Eastern Summit County’s local real estate professionals, established in 2003 to provide outstanding real estate services for Utah’s Summit and Wasatch Counties. This area is about 30 miles east of Salt Lake City and is the recreational playground for the Wasatch Front. Our office is at 85 South Main Street in Kamas, in the beautiful Kamas Valley which is home to approximately 2,500 year-round residences.
We are the “Gateway to the Uintas,” the mountains bordering the Kamas Valley which contain hundreds of private recreational properties, second homes & cabins, as well as other public lands used for fishing, hiking, camping, hunting, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, boating and more.
Chad Mitchell, Joanne Aplanalp and Sherm Smoot are co-owners and long time valley residents with individual strengths that complement each other. Chad Mitchell – Principal Broker/Owner, MBA, CRS, ABR, GRI, ePro
Chad is a native of the area but spent most of his adult life in other parts of the country, where he was a Senior VP for an international consulting engineering firm. In 1996 he moved back home to the beautiful Kamas Valley, started a land development company & began helping clients buy and sell real estate.
As the Principal Broker, Chad’s skills in management, finance, organization & positive outlook are put to good use. Ask Chad about the wall of maps in the office or history of the area.

Joanne Aplanalp – Agent/Owner
Joanne has an extensive background in marketing, advertising, & as Senior Producer at KSL TV & Radio where she worked for 11 years & earned several national awards. Her B.S. degree is in education & she taught high school in Salt Lake & Logan prior to moving to Oakley in 1978.
Since 2001 she turned her efforts to a very successful real estate business & helps clients sell & buy property in the Kamas Valley, Heber, & Coalville, as well as seasonal properties in the Weber Canyon. Her attention to detail & taking care of clients’ needs produces great results.

Sherm, a Woodland resident, has worked in real estate since 1997. Prior to that he spent 20 years in securities & investments.
Sherm loves real estate & was runner up to “Rookie of the Year,” followed by many other awards.

Rebecca Felton - Agent
Rebecca has been a resident of Kamas for the past 10 years, & has visited the valley since the early 1970’s. She has come to know & love the area & is excited to help both buyers & sellers.

Austin Smoot
Austin grew up in Kamas, attending the local schools, and later graduated from Weber State University with Honors in Technical Sales. Previous to his career in real estate Austin worked with Stone Security as one of their top producing sales reps. Austin is fluent in Spanish, owns rental properties, and can help buyers in that area. He loves the outdoors, is an avid skier, and knows the surrounding mountains and ski areas very well.
